Can the product variation be pre-selected from the shop page?

Hi,

On my shop page, when a customer selects a variation from the swatch, the image changes correctly to match the variation.

However, when the customer click on the image to go to the single product page, the parent product (without any variation selected) shows up. I don’t want customers to add to cart from the shop page as I want them to go to the single product page to select options before adding to cart.

Is there a way to have the single product page start with whatever product variation was chosen from the shop page?
