discount and add to cart

Can you please help me get this plugin to work correctly?
1. Override products in the cart does not always work
2. Is there a way to pop up a cross-sell only when they add a product to cart?

I want to offer a different product for a discount when they add a certain product to the cart, but am having issues with it removing the same item and replacing with a bundle in the cart.
