get selected currency and exchange rates

Hello,

I’m using the Multi Currency extension on my store and writing some custom PHP code. I have some questions below:

1) How do I get the current selected currency?
2) How do I get the exchange rates for currencies I’ve set?

The above I need in order to do proper calculations and conversions between currencies. Or if there are functions that I can use to convert between currencies, that would be best too!
