Remove status change

Is there a way to remove any automatic status changes? We have custom order statuses and when an order has all the tracking entered it is not necessarily complete. We can manually uncheck that to not mark it complete but because these orders are to be invoiced we have already discovered many that were in a complete status and never invoiced. I would like the default to be that all status changes are only done via the order itself and not ever done by this plugin.
